I commissioned a small batch of these blades to be made to my own specifications and drawings.
These have a large continuous tapered tang with radiused shoulders to eliminate any weak points.
Made from pattern welding two contrasting steels, 1095 high carbon and 15N20 carbon/nickle alloy.
The result is a beautiful, high contrast Damascus blade with a Rockwell hardness of approx. 59 to 60 that make a very high quality blade.
Overall length 5.3" / 134mm : Blade length 3.6" / 92mm : Thickness 1/8" / 3.1mm
Hand forged Damascus from Mumbai

This
consists of contrasting steels (in this case, high carbon steel & mild steel) folded
and forged together many times resulting in hundreds of layers; which produces a beautiful, organic pattern. There is considerable variation in the Damascus patterns and finish
and occasionally tiny flaws or inclusions may be present in this metal.

Swedish Steel Blades
The use of Swedish iron and steel in the Scottish arms industry has a long tradition.
During the mid seventeenth century, metallurgical entrepreneurs like David, James and Henry Lyall moved to Sweden where they both traded and produced quantities of Swedish iron. This was bought and shipped back to Scotland as finished weapons during such episodes as the Covenanting Wars by Gothenburg-based Scots such as John Maclean between 1639-1651.
More interestingly was the import from Sweden of metals for the use by indigenous Scottish producers .Archival sources reveal that many cargoes were shipped to be turned into weapons by Scots who had honed their art in Swedish foundries. The most famous of these was General Alexander (Dear Sandy) Hamilton, who established his Edinburgh foundry and canon factory along the same lines as those he developed in Arboga in the 1630s. The involvement of Scots with the Swedish metal industry continued when Ingrid Boij, the daughter of a Scottish immigrant, established her Hammer Forge at Grangshammar in Dalarna in the late 1600s.
On a smaller scale I seek to continue the tradition of producing premium quality Sgian Dubhs by offering blades made from the finest quality Swedish steel.
