Sgian Dubh Fittings

Ferrules

The metal fittings at the top and base of the Sgian Dubh handle are called ferrules. Each of our Sgian Dubhs comes with a lower ferrule whereas a top ferrule is only used when fitting a pommel stone.

Our most popular choice of metal for the ferrules is Sterling Silver, which are hallmarked at the Edinburgh Assay Office with our maker's mark LNO (Loch Ness Silver).

We also offer Brass and now and again we use, Gold, Titanium or Damascus steel.

For the lower ferrule at the base of the handle we can offer a variety of styles including plain, Celtic Knotwork, Pictish, a short personal engraving or a simple custom design.

For commissions with a Sgian Dubh and Wedding Rings, we can engrave the ring design on the lower ferrule.

Pommels

We work closely with Nat at Scottish Gemstones who makes our pommel stones for us.

There are a variety of natural Scottish stones which are suitable for using as a pommel stone.

Below are just a few examples of our pommel stones.

Please let us know if there is a particular colour range you would like for your Sgian Dubh or if there is a location in Scotland that has a special significance for you and we will see what may be possible.
